Inland Empire Students Rally Around Aguilar
(San Bernardino, CA) - Today, Congressman Pete Aguilar joined college students throughout the Inland Empire to discuss issues important to young people, including his legislation to ease the financial burden on students, the Inland Empire economy and jobs prospects for graduates. The gathering was held at the University of Redlands and included students attending other area schools, including Cal State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and the University of California, Riverside (UCR).
"As someone who worked my way through college with the help of Pell Grants and student loans, I know exactly what students today are going through," said Congressman Aguilar. He continued, "Every student who works hard should be able to afford a college education and not be saddled with burdensome debt that prevents them from buying a home or starting a family."
Earlier this year, Congressman Aguilar introduced the Grace Period Alleviation (GPA) Act, which would give students more time after graduating to find a job and gain valuable work experience before having to begin paying back their federal Stafford loans. He cosponsored the All-Year ACCESS Act, which expands access to Pell Grants for students attending class year-round, and supported legislation that would make two years of community college free for all Americans.
Pete Aguilar represents California’s 31st congressional district. He is a strong advocate for economic growth and fairness in the Inland Empire and a leader who reaches across party lines to deliver results for San Bernardino County’s middle class.
